Women must have equal heart attack care

Recently the British Heart Foundation have released a report showing that over 8000 women die as a result of unequal heart attack care per year across the country.

Lib Dem campaigner for Derby North, Barry Holliday, said:

"Sadly, this isn't new information. For years we have known that women are not receiving the same care for heart attacks as men, now we know to what extent and how many women are dying as a result.

"There needs to be more understanding that heart attacks can give different symptoms in women then in men.

"I echo the call made by our health spokesperson Baroness Judith Jolly; the Government must act to ensure people understand the heart attack risk both women and men face. Plus, those who use defibrillators must be trained to recognise the symptoms that are unique to women."
