Electrify the railway up to Sheffield

The 2010-2015 Coalition Government planned to electrify the Midland Main Line, the railway line from London to Sheffield, by 2020.  This would reduce pollution and increase capacity on the line.  With ‘green’ electricity from renewable sources it would also help train travel become “zero carbon”.

This target has come and gone.  Meanwhile the Government’s HS2 project, building a whole new railway line from London to the Midlands and beyond, has been reduced.  It will probably never reach Derby and is running seriously over time and over budget.  Let's get the electrification finished so we can get some benefit from the work already completed.

Improve visibility at Haven Baulk Lane junction

Vehicles parking too close to the end of Haven Baulk Lane are obstructing the road junction. In order to maintain safety and sight lines vehicles should be prevented from parking near the junction.

More dentists needed in Derby

In some parts of Derby patients per dentist has risen to 3,000

We call on the Government to increase the number of NHS dental appointments available. In particular, we call on the Government to increase training places for new dentists, reform NHS dental contracts and make it easier to recruit experienced dentists to fill dental vacancies. We call on the health board to provide NHS dental opportunities for all parts of Derby.

Enforce 20mph limits

There are more and more streets across Derbyshire where the speed limit is now 20mph. We would like the Derbyshire Police, including CREST (the Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team) to be able to enforce the speed limit in these areas, as they do for roads with 30mph and higher limits.

Sewage dumping levels are at their highest level for years

Water firms are failing to disclose how much sewage is being discharged into rivers, lakes and coastlines.

Environmental Information Requests by the Liberal Democrats revealed that water firms could be guitly of a scandalous cover up.

Do you think the speed limit on Station Road, Mickleover should be changed?

Station Road is now built up with housing along the whole length with housing estates exiting onto Station Road.

The pavements are not complete for the whole length yet the speed limit remains at 40mph for the out of village end.

Should the speed limits should be changed or left as is?
