Sign me the way to the hospital
Last year, 2.7 million people made their own way to A&E when ambulances were not available. If the road signs are missing, unclear, wrong or confusing this could introduce a life threatening delay.
If you are having to drive yourself to hospital (because ambulances are not available) you need to know where to go and for the road signage to be correct, accurate, consistent, and present.
Derby's accident and emergency is not signposted on the direct or obvious routes when travelling from outside the City. It is partially signposted when travelling from the City centre. In several places the name of the hospital is wrong and signs are absent from some of the junctions along the route.
Signage to hospitals is important as hospitals are no longer local and people have to travel some way to get to these centralised facilities. Currently there is a lack of ambulances, which forces people to drive themselves to hospital - when in a traumatised state they need accurate and sufficient signage to get them to the correct place quickly.
